Dr Dhanraj Gahukar was born in a small village near Nagpur in Maharashtra. He was 2nd among 3 children of poor farmer
family. From childhood itself, he was immensely touched by people suffering from health issue and thus aspired to become
doctor. Against all odds he studied while working and graduated in Ayurveda medicine (BAMS) from Government Ayurveda
College, Nagpur in 1983. After which he obtained his first post graduate degree (MD) in Rasashastra from Nagpur University
in 1987 and later in Panchakarma in 1995.
Dr. Gahukar began his professional career at Government Ayurveda College,
Nagpur as registrar, during which he realised a need for specialized Ayurvedic
Hospital. In 1990, he conceptualised and founded Samadhan Hospital, first
private panchakarma hospital, one of its kind in Central India. Later, Ayurved
Dham Hospital was established in 2016.
He is an academic clinician with research interests. He significantly contributed
to the development of several panchakarma treatment protocols, instruments
and standardisation of panchakarma treatment. His expertise in managing
Paralysis, Prolapse Intervertebral disc, Arthritis, Skin diseases, Lifestyle
disorders and chronic diseases like multiple sclerosis, ulcerative colitis etc has
significantly benefited thousands of people. He believes that by integrating
medicine for chronic diseases, cost of treatment can be reduced significantly
with better outcomes.
During his practice, he realised that patients can be benefited by panchakarma
treatment but was not able to get the benefit because of the unavailability of
therapy locally. Patients have to visit south India for treatment which was not
feasible. He started providing quality Panchakarma therapy in Nagpur and
motivated many ayurveda doctors to start the services in their areas for
betterment of patients. He trained many ayurveda practitioner and helped them
in all possible ways to set and run their clinics.
Dr Dhanraj Gahukar dedicated his whole life for patient care and promoting Health
through Ayurveda. He strongly believes that by preventing disease one can reduce the
suffering of common man and thereby improve their physical, mental, social, economical
wellbeing. Ayurveda being the science of life, any person can achieve his health goals
effectively in low cost by adopting it, for which awareness is most important.
With this goal he founded Gahukar’s education and Research Foundation (GERF) for
promoting health, education and research. He conducted and participated in number of
camps for promoting health. He has significantly work on promoting preventive health
through Ayurveda. He regularly conducts ‘Ayurveda Satsang’ program for general
public, during which he deliberates on the lifestyle modification i.e Ahar, Vihar,
Dinacharya, Rutucharya based on Ayurveda principles, preventive measures to avoid
lifestyle disorders, explains health related myths and answer doubts.
He traveled extensively across the country and abroad for creating awareness among
people for Ayurveda through lectures, consultation, orations, speeches, public forum
addresses. He also publishes free quarterly magazine named Ayurvedamrut for general
population.This magazine provides information about Ayurveda therapy and various
result oriented traditional activities in local language.
He is actively associated with social and professional organisations like Lions Club,
Rotary Club, NAPR, NASYA, Vayspeeth, NIMA etc. to extend social services to society.
Apart from preventive and curative services, he is working tirelessly for
rehabilitation of patients with neurological and orthopaedic disorders. He has
special interest in Paralysis patient rehabilitation, making them relearn skills
that are suddenly lost. He emphasises on to protect these patients from
developing new medical problems and cope with personal, professional,
family and social issues. Many underprivileged and low income patients were
provided free of cost treatment giving them new lease of life.
He passed on his experience by teaching more than 2500 students and also
providing clinical support to set their own Ayurvedic practices in India and in
Germany, USA, UAE, UK, Australia. He has designed and executed various
unique short term courses for Ayurveda practitioners and technicians to
enrich and empower them to practice confidently.
He was selected as ‘Guru’ in 2010 to impart training under Guru Shishya
Parampara of Rashtriya Ayurved Vidyapeeth, an autonomous organisation
under Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India.
Dr. Gahukars contribution to raise quality and standards in panchakarma is immense. A
good quality medicine at affordable rate is utmost essential for effective treatment.
Ayurveda is about herbal medicine and its quality, which is big challenge for all ayurvedic
practitioner.
He worked hard to reduce the cost of treatment and formulated various effective Ayurvedic
medicines and protocols. In collaboration with leading pharmaceutical companies, these
products were made available to patients. Also, he encouraged farmer to cultivate herbal
medicine and facilitates purchase of their products by companies.
He established Sanjivani Ayushadhalaya, ayurvedic pharmaceutical unit which manufactures
Panchakarma Kit and other low cost high effective medicine to improve quality of
medication. The Panchakarma kit was appreciated by Honourable Union AYUSH Minister
Shri Shripad Yesso Naik and many others.
Lack of proper panchakarma instruments leads to inconvenience to patients and staff.
Dr. Gahukar did pioneering work in designing and developing instrument for
panchakarma, leading to wide acceptance of therapy.
Gahukar’s Ayurved Panchakarma Instrumental Engineering was founded to supply
equipments for panchakarma treatment. Instruments developed were highly
appreciated and were installed in many ayurveda colleges and hospital in India and
abroad. Vaman Yantra was exhibited at permanent event at the Grassi Museum,
Leipzing, Germany in 2009.
